We are the MacKinnon Family with 6 children and Hamish House used to be our family home.
We bought the house in June 2007, when I was 4 months pregnant with our youngest child(Erin, named after the village ‘FleshERIN)
We had moved from the mainland to live the dream and we did, until my husband’s job brought us back to the mainland. So, after a few years of renting out the property to tenants, we decided to use the house as a Holiday let. This way we can still stay at the house and the island ourselves, and it helps bring visitors to the island and to the village.
We named the property Hamish House, mostly because the masculine of my name ‘Jacqueline’ is James. (in Scottish Gaelic, James is Seamus, or Hamish, depending on how you address someone using Gaelic.) Our youngest son’s middle name is also James so Hamish seemed a good name to go with.
Hamish House is a great house in a wonderful location, with a view I never tire of looking at, I try to get back to the island as often as possible with the children, they love it also and we hope you do too.
Meet Hamish MacLeod, 1st Chief of the Hebridean Humpty Clan. He is guardian of Hamish House. Kids can delight in taking Hamish on their adventures around the island. He really likes to visit the huge play area built into the Dunes over in Ness, the swings are a favourite. Hamish also likes to visit the Callanish Stones, he sometimes sees his family there. Hamish will delight in any adventures he is taken on, as you can see from the glakit expression on his face.
